The South African Adventure Industry Association (SA AIA) is creating a safer, more inclusive community for adventurers. We are an adventure collective - supporting the South African adventure industry.

The adventure industry in South Africa is fragmented, lacks safety standards, professional guidelines and (up to now) did not have an umbrella organisation to guide and mentor entrants into the exciting working world of adventure.

SA AIA is the first association in South Africa to work towards a professional, safe, and inclusive adventure industry.

Skills Development Partner & Instructor Accreditation (Launching 2026)

SA AIA will launch its national Skills Development Partner (SDP) & Instructor/Trainer Accreditation Programme in early 2026, starting with 4×4 Off-Road Technical Skills as the pilot discipline under SA AIA’s Technical Skills Framework. This programme introduces a nationally consistent accreditation system for technical adventure skills training, replacing the gap left by the discontinuation of TETA’s 4×4 accreditation and expanding into additional adventure disciplines through 2026.

The accreditation process begins with a short Expression of Interest (EOI), followed by a skill-specific accreditation application once scope and readiness are confirmed.

2026 Accreditation Pricing

Corporate Skills Development Partners (SDPs)
• Corporate Membership: R1,500 / year (includes 1 Professional Membership)
• SDP Accreditation: R2,000 once-off (valid 3 years)
• Re-accreditation: R1,000 every 3 years
• CPD Activity Registration: R500 per activity (valid 3 years)
• Requirement: At least one SA AIA-accredited Instructor/Trainer

Instructor / Trainer Accreditation
• Professional Membership: R250 / year (under 35) or R450 / year (35+)
• Instructor/Trainer Accreditation: R800 once-off (valid 3 years)
• Re-accreditation: R400 every 3 years
• Optional Professional Designation: R800 (renewed every 3 years)

Expression of Interest Form

This accreditation framework introduces quality assurance, trainer competence standards, CPD alignment, certificate traceability, and a national register of accredited providers and trainers. The 4×4 chapter will be the first to go live, with additional skills — including mountain biking, paddling, mountaineering, hiking, and ropework — entering phased rollout during 2026.
