Expanding Standardised Off-Road Skills Pathways in South Africa

Pretoria, Gauteng — 10 April 2026 — The South African Adventure Industry Association (SA AIA) is proud to announce the publication of its Adventure Motorcycles (Off-Road Riding) Operation technical documentation suite, developed through the SA AIA Off-Road & Overlanding Chapter as part of the broader SA AIA Technical Competency Framework.

This release marks a significant milestone in SA AIA’s industry-led work to improve training quality, safety, consistency, and professional standards across the adventure sector. The newly published Technical Skills Guideline: Adventure Motorcycles (Off-Road Riding) Operation (Revision 1) sets out minimum competencies, safety standards, environmental considerations, assessment benchmarks, and instructor guidance for adventure motorcycle off-road training and guided riding experiences.

Alongside the Technical Skills Guideline, the Adventure Motorcycles Courses Curriculum has also been published, providing a structured, outcomes-based training pathway that includes three progressive course levels (Introduction, Basic, Advanced).

In addition, the SA AIA Off-Road & Overlanding Chapter accreditation requirements have been updated to include Adventure Motorcycles alongside 4x4, supporting a unified approach to training provider and instructor standards within the chapter.

“Adventure motorcycles are a fast-growing part of South Africa’s off-road and overlanding landscape. Publishing this curriculum and technical skills guideline is another concrete step in building credible, industry-aligned training pathways,” says SA AIA Executive Director, Jessi Sunkel.
