South African Adventure Industry Association Launches National Adventure Travel Map in Partnership with tourismZA

02 May 2025
Official collaboration between the South African Adventure Industry Association (SA AIA) and tourismZA to launch a national Google Maps-based adventure tourism visibility platform.
The South African Adventure Industry Association (SA AIA) is proud to announce its collaboration with tourismZA to launch the SA AIA National Adventure Travel Map — a groundbreaking new initiative designed to boost the visibility of South Africa’s adventure tourism sector both locally and globally.
Built on Google Maps and integrated with tourismZA’s national tourism platform, this interactive digital map will spotlight accredited adventure businesses, enabling travellers from around the world to discover, experience, and directly connect with authentic adventure offerings across South Africa.
“This is a major leap forward for the adventure sector,” said Jessi Sunkel, Executive Director of SA AIA. “Whether you’re a paragliding operator in the Cape or running school-based outdoor learning in Limpopo, this map brings your business into the global spotlight.”
A Tool for Growth & Transformation
The collaboration ensures that participating SA AIA members receive comprehensive support to set up and optimize their Google Business Profiles — a critical visibility asset in the digital age. The initiative supports both established and emerging enterprises by offering:
Verified placement on the Adventure Travel Map
Free profile creation, setup, and guidance workshops
Ongoing visibility through international trade shows, national marketing, and online tourism platforms
In addition, the initiative supports sector transformation through tourismZA’s 10% community credit donation — reinvesting into micro-enterprises and emerging professionals in underrepresented communities.

From paragliding and kayaking to experiential learning and outdoor education, the map will serve as a one-stop portal for accessing trusted, professional adventure providers across South Africa.
“The more visible our adventure industry becomes, the more we can grow local tourism, empower professionals, and connect travellers to meaningful, memorable experiences,” added Francois Nel, Director of SA AIA.
