SA AIA Adventure Motorcycles – Technical Skills Guideline (Version 1)

The SA AIA Adventure Motorcycles Technical Skills Guideline (Revision 1) forms part of the official SA AIA Technical Skills Framework and sets out the minimum competencies, responsibilities, safety standards, environmental considerations, and assessment benchmarks for instructors, trainers, facilitators, assessors, and guides conducting adventure motorcycle off-road training and/or guided riding experiences in South Africa.

The guideline aligns with the SA AIA Off-Road & Overlanding Chapter curriculum for Operating Adventure Motorcycles in Off-road Conditions – Courses Curriculum (Revision 1) and should be read together with that curriculum and the Chapter’s accreditation requirements.

What’s inside:

  • Scope of practice for adventure motorcycle off-road riding activities, including recommended supervision ratios and limitations
  • A three-level technical skills pathway (Introduction, Basic, Advanced) aligned to SA AIA curriculum levels
  • Minimum safety standards (PPE, first aid considerations, weather criteria, comms and evacuation planning)
  • Environmental considerations specific to responsible off-road riding
  • Assessment criteria and performance benchmarks, including a minimum benchmark for theory/oral questioning
  • Trainer / instructor guidelines, including delivery, supervision, documentation and certification expectations
